Gateway Communications, Africa’s leading connectivity provider launched the AirLinkTM and MetroLinkTM products for Nigeria at the Eko Hotel in Lagos today. The products are designed to revolutionise the way companies operating in Nigeria access the internet and connect branch offices.

Speaking at the launch for Gateway’s corporate customers Gateway CEO Peter Gbedemah said: “AirLinkTM and MetroLinkTM are a step forward for corporate connectivity in Nigeria. We have leveraged our dedicated 10.5GHz spectrum licence to provide a broadband solution that beats anything currently on the market in terms of speed and bandwidth. AirLinkTM and MetroLinkTM are taking connectivity in Nigeria to a new level and we look forward to introducing them in other African markets over the coming months.”

AirLinkTM is a true broadband internet service offering access at speeds up to 8Mbps for each site where it is installed.

MetroLinkTM allows companies with multiple offices in a metropolitan area to inter-connect those offices using a fast, dedicated and quick to install product ideal for banks, consumer goods distribution centres and fuel stations.

AirLinkTM and MetroLinkTM raise the performance of a corporate network by accessing as much network capacity as is needed, without the current budget  versus bandwidth compromises. Some of the clients who have signed up to the AirLinkTM service already include  Nextzon, Amadeus and Berkeley Group amongst others.

AirLink™ and MetroLink™ use the dedicated 10.5 GHz spectrum licence which Gateway secured from the Nigerian Communications Commission. This allows the company to offer an exclusive service operating to the same quality standard and speed as fibre alternatives.

“Of late, the industry has spent much time focusing on 3.5GHz technologies such as WiMAX,” said Steve Chapman, Gateway Commercial Director for Business Services. “While we feel this is potentially useful for the deployment of single user devices such as laptops and eventually mobile devices, that kind of connectivity is not suitable for large-scale corporate businesses. Our AirLinkTM and MetroLinkTM 10.5Ghz solutions address the growing need in Nigeria for true broadband for business critical applications; a technology platform that gives users the same or better connectivity experience as they would get using fibre or ADSL in the USA, UK or Europe.”

AirLinkTM and MetroLinkTM can be installed and activated in a single day. Gateway aim to roll out these products in Ghana and Mozambique in the next quarter before expanding them into the rest of Africa.

Testimonials from AirLinkTM Customers

NextZon Services: Emmanuel Agha is pleased with the performance of AirLink and has advised his company to use it as their primary link going forward. This has also opened collocation business opportunities for us and they have also requested for an Africa IP connect backup internet service.

Berkeley Group: Kenny Badiru, is pleased with the performance and is
optimistic about our business relationship growing. The test link was
pegged at 512k but they will be looking at start as paying clients with
2Mbps.
