Hello,
To kick off this edition of Talking Drums we'd like to ask about you - the people and the companies at the forefront of African telecommunications.
We want to better understand the demands of your business in
Africa so we're conducting a
short survey of the leading wholesale providers, carriers
and operators working in Africa. We'd like
to hear your thoughts
on future expectations for our telecoms industry in Africa.
Please take a look at our survey, as we'll be sharing the results
in future editions of Talking Drums.
2010 is Africa's year - no doubt about that. Did
you know that 16 African countries will celebrate their 50th anniversaries
since independence in 2010, the FIFA World Cup takes place in South
Africa and broadband will be extended into Africa as further under-sea
cables land? These are just some of the developments that will offer
opportunities for businesses across the continent and globally.
Communications will be key to the success of these major events and we're excited about what it will mean to our business, connecting Africa to the rest of the world. In this edition of Talking Drums we want to take you on a tour of the Gateway Globe, looking at some exciting developments across Africa.
West
Africa is on everybody's radar, and we update you with what's
keeping us busy there. We look at the impact of the sub-sea cables
in East
and Southern Africa, and a look ahead as more capacity comes
to Africa. We also introduce you to Minnie
Maharaj who has recently joined us in South Africa as our
new Executive Director, Marketing and Product Development.
Connecting Africa is our focus. Gateway - as the carriers' carrier - is working globally, and we look at how the emergence of Africa over the last decade has changed the way international telecommunications are handled. Africa is seeing particular interest from the BRIC countries, and providing wholesale services between Africa and countries like Brazil, Russia, India and China, is increasingly important.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Talking Drums. Meanwhile, I will be beating the drum for all the African teams taking part in the World Cup, and look forward to working with you in 2010. |
